Ashok - A day in the life of a Finance Manager

Its almost the end of just another Monday and I try to reflect on what I did today.

8:30

Browsed through "City AM" to understand how much the financial world has changed over the weekend as i take (the not so enjoyable) 'tube' to reach office

9:00

Started the day catching up on emails followed by a meeting with one of my internal project teams.

10:30

A quick catch up with my manager on the plan for the week ahead over a cup of coffee

10:45

Continued on the design of a community event that we have been planning

12:00

Met with our internal IT team to review progress on the development of a software application

12:30

Lunch with a few visitors from Prudential Process Management Services (PPMS), Mumbai, India

13:00

Responded to emails that had piled up in the last 2 hours

13:15

Worked on an update for our CFO. A follow-up from my presentation to him last week

15:30

A teleconference with George (another Momentum participant) in Hong Kong. Had an interesting discussion on the widening bond spreads and its impact on insurance and fund management businesses

16:00

Reviewed some finance processes that we are looking at redesigning

17:30

Met with one of our colleagues from M&G (Prudential's fund management business) to discuss some work that we have been collaborating on.

As i write this, I'm distracted by lights from what looks like  a police patrol boat on the river. Looking out from my 8th floor desk, the Thames looks serene indeed. But its serenity is in stark contrast to all the disturbances, shifts... happening on its shores - right here in the square mile!

Amidst all that's happening around it, the Pru has continued to remain a pillar of strength. This, financial resilience demonstrated over 160 years is what attracted me to Prudential in the first place. In addition to it, my role is well and truly dynamic and today (as described above) is NOT reflective of a typical day, as there is no real typical day!

But, i can assure you of one thing - each day offers fresh new challenges and loads of opportunities to interact, influence and impact.

I'm really not sure how many jobs will offer the opportunity to interact with the organisation's top managers from day one, put you in positions' where you have the power to influence the most important strategic decisions and enable you to continuously improve by providing stretch opportunities.

If you believe you have immense potential, want to fully realise your potential and grow with the organisation, i have no hesitation in saying - look no further than Prudential's Momentum.
